About Workshop:
Have fun no matter your age by joyfully painting your own custom designs on river rocks! Participants will be encouraged to bring their vision to life by lead artist James Mertke. From there, they will be guided through how to weather coat their creation to bring a colorful, personalized touch to any garden or outdoor patio.
About Painting with James
James Mertke is a self-taught acrylic painter from San Jose, California. His still life paintings feature a variety of seemingly ordinary items that are brought to life through his use of color. Subjects such as fruits, candies, and items of nostalgia are prominent in his pieces. In addition to showing his art in local cafes and eateries, James has also exhibited his work in various galleries across California.
About School of Rock San Jose
School of Rock’s San Jose location is proud to offer music classes to help teach our community how to play instruments with skill and confidence. We teach everything from keyboard to bass guitar, songwriting, and vocals for all levels. At School of Rock, students can perform live shows and develop their musical ability in a supportive and encouraging learning environment. The city offers a wealth of opportunities for students to take the skills they learned at School of Rock and go on to perform at local venues such as Art Boutiki, a well known all-ages venue for local artists, and The Ritz.

California native Jessica Carmen honors her Chicana roots and the feminine experience via vibrant works of art. Her inspiration is often drawn from the folklore, artisanal crafts, iconography and flavor of the culture that allowed her to be unapologetically bold and find strength in her femininity. As a self-taught artist and arts education advocate, Jessica is eager to share her culture through workshops, public art and conversations with various communities.
About Baby Dizzle
Diana Alondra, known as Baby Dizzle, is a DJ, promoter, educator, and all around community member from the Monterey County area. When performing, her carefully curated musical selection is often a blend of cumbia, reggaeton, y2k and rock en Español.

About Jessica Cao:
San Jose native Jessica Cao is a muralist and illustrator working across digital and physical media (acrylic, oil, gouache.) Her work pulsates with energy, capturing the movement and individual character of flora and fauna. Jessica uses art for environmental advocacy, reminding us that we are cohabitants, not owners, of this planet. Her artwork can be found on greeting cards, silk scarves, and furniture, and previous clients include Waymo and the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.
About Paulina Acosta
Paulina Acosta is a music teacher, vocalist, and artist born and raised in San José, California. Her maternal grandparents sang and played music for a living, and she is honored to continue to continue that legacy with her community today.
Paulina trained in classical piano for ten years at San José School of Music, and expanded her studies by adding vocal jazz and classical choir while at performing arts magnet Abraham Lincoln High School. She pursued her own art and music history research as an undergrad at UC Berkeley, abroad at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and in graduate coursework at Brown University. As Pau D'Arco, she performs throughout the Bay Area, singing covers of Latin American indie folk, traditional folk, sometimes corridos and cumbias.

Rayos Magos is a Latinx/Chicano mixed-media artist from San Jose, CA. Rayos explores personal narratives and universal themes via collage, printmaking, painting, textile, and sculpture. As an Latinx artist, Rayos is inspired by culture, people, identity, and the roles we play in society. His past and present work is influenced by his investigation into his ethnic and cultural identity as a Chicano (Mexican-American/Latinx) person living in the U.S., which informs the work he makes and speaks to this unique bicultural experience. His body of work focuses on symbolism, healing, spirituality, mental health, and social justice.
About Esther Young
Esther Young writes and performs lyrically rich, ethereal indie-folk music to highlight the power of honest storytelling. As a community engagement organizer and event host, she facilitates and works with artists and organizations who serve and represent East and Downtown San Jose.
